Meet Roy

I am as grateful for my successes as I am for my failures because I believe in the creative process and allowing myself the freedom to explore without expectations or judgement.

Roy Stevens, Creativity Catalyst Life Coach

A Short Bio

As a Creativity Catalyst Life Coach with over 30 years’ experience of mentorship in various fields, I help talented, creative individuals and groups transform their lives and reclaim their creative strengths so they can reimagine their true potential.

My passion for the arts began in university, where, as an

anthropology student, I was introduced to pottery. Immediately,

I felt a deep connection to working with clay and later went

on to study ceramics and sculpture. I explored new mediums

and creative outlets which drove my desire for continuous

learning and enhanced my life as a whole.

I spent time travelling at sea before settling in rural

New Hampshire to establish my first kiln. My pottery mentor

at the time taught me that to be creative was very much a state

of being, that an artist must become fully immersed in what

we do in our art, to release oneself to our creative beingness.

She was also fiercely independent. For instance, if she needed

a kiln shed, she would build it herself. That may have been what

inspired me to learn skills as a carpenter and to later establish a

successful house building career. She became an inspiration

for me, to pursue my creative life, to remain open to learning

and developing as an artist.

Some years later, I moved to Berkeley, California, where I was encouraged to use my experience in building to pursue a career in architecture. I enrolled at U.C Berkeley, and upon completing my degree, went on to work across the USA, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and the Mid-East, Western Balkans and China. I have been honoured to win a number of awards for my work, including ‘Best Historic Preservation’ in 2000, ‘Best Home’ in 2000, ‘Best Highrise - Mipim’ in 2007, in 2018 Best Metro Station and in 2021 Foreign Economic Advisor for the City of Qingdao.

In the late 90’s, I joined a fast-growing practice as a project director, and gained the nickname, “Uncle Roy”, the company mentor. Since then, I have mentored hundreds of architects and creatives at all levels of experience. I have established design studios in London, Montenegro, Serbia and China where I currently practice and lecture.

The onset of Covid-19, for me, became a catalyst for growth and self-reflection. I rekindled my love for mentorship and studied under the renowned American Psychologist and founder of creative coaching, Eric Maisel.

My clients love working with me because of my compassionate approach, client-centered vision, and international lens. Working with a variety of teams globally has helped me adapt my approach to support individual communication, to be open to diversity and cultural differences and learning styles and to produce favourable results.

My vision, calling, and commitment, is to serve others on their journey to move beyond their mental blocks and embody their full creative potential.
